UK Public Take to Streets to say #RefugeesWelcome

Thousands of people joined nationwide demonstrations in the UK yesterday, to send a clear message to the Government, that refugees are welcome to come to the UK.

Images from the protest are shared in this video:

There was great diversity in solidarity and it wonderful to see so many children, with their handmade banners and parents raising awareness of this issue and encouraging activism.

On the same day there was a monumental victory for the left, as Jeremy Corbyn won the Labour Leadership election in the largest landslide victory ever seen at this level. Within a couple of hours of him being elected, he joined the protest where he spoke. I share a video of his speech below. He says

“Surely, surely, surely our objective ought to be, to find peaceful solutions to the problems of this World. To spend our resources on helping people not hindering people and to try and bring about that World of decency, human rights and justice.”

As he says this, Camerons’ Government have invited and are hosting the Worlds’ largest Arms Fair at the Excel Centre, London Newham this week. The Tory party finally have a clear opposition in Labour. It’s a great day for people power.

Peace and love
